Lovett Hall Faculty Affairs

This web page gathers together a variety of useful information especially designed to ease new faculty members into their new roles at Rice. Faculty veterans may also find this an easy point-of-entry to the myriad of resources available to the faculty on the Internet. The faculty web pages also provide a link to promotion and tenure policies. If there are any questions you have relating to your academic area, you should begin with your chair or departmental coordinator.

New Faculty Orientation

To assist new faculty with Rice policies and procedures, the Provost hosts an orientation each year. At this time, the various faculty and student leaders introduce and give insight to the undergraduate and graduate programs and to the life at Rice. Though this is not mandatory, the orientation also provides new faculty with an opportunity to network. Packets of information are also distributed, and below you will find useful web sites with information about the guidelines for faculty appointments, promotion, tenure and renewal of contracts that can now be found on the web. (Please note that with regard to tenure and promotion, there are two sets of guidelines, one for those faculty who are governed by Policy #201-87 and one for those governed by Policy #201-01.
