The crack of the bat heralds the start of another baseball season at Rice University, and with it comes renewed hopes for yet another Conference USA championship and trip to the College World Series in Omaha, where the Owls took the prize in 2003. The crack of the bat is music to some, information to others and, sometimes, trouble. Rice President David Leebron experiences all three when star third baseman Anthony Rendon’s sweet swing sends the ball into space – the president’s space, that is.
